Bratachari movement in Bengal came fourth with the
priesthood of GuruSaday Dutt. He was an I.C.S. In 1905 he joined ICS as the SDO
of Ara sub-division in undivided Bengal. Before his retirement in 1940 G.S.
Dutt served several government departments as Dy-Director, Director , Secretary,
Collector etc. The greatest achievement of his life was the Bratachari
Movement.
Bratachari Movement actually was a part of GuruSaday Dutt’s attraction
towards the Indian culture and legacy. Though he was a bureaucrat of British
empire but his thinking and affiliation with Swadeshi Movement was deeper. Once
he invited Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy in Bankura 1922 to inaugurate a Swadeshi fair. He told there that
being a british bureaucrat he has some embargo to utter ‘Vande Mataram’. Hence
he repeatedly uttered ‘Vande Mataram' in his presidential speech. Later he was
transferred from Bankura.
GuruSaday Dutt felt the soul of India lies into the rural
life , if we want to develop our motherland then we has to concentrate our
Rural structure of life. He always said without unity and communal affinity we actually could
do nothing for our rural structure development. He found ‘Sarojnalini
narimongol samiti’ for betterment of rural women. He thought that for upliftment
our potential we have to improve our skill and knowledge, otherwise a nation building process would be actually went in vein. Gurusaday Dutt told school curriculam is not enough to
decrease proverty and ignorance. He emphasized on ‘mandali’ formation a typical rural
group which used to lead Bengali rural life in Pre-British era.
This initiatives were the root of Bratachari Movement.
Gurusaday Dutt felt the real sole is hidden into our hereditary. Without the
rise of mass and young population we cannot impose political aspiration of
freedom upon them. Bratachari Group foundation was the ultimatum.
